Ladygate Bowls Club was founded in 1980. Going back to earlier years the green was home to Glacier Sports Club, The Bees Club, and before that Acton Sports Club.
The original premises consisted of a caravan, in which all the club and green keeping equipment was stored. However with the help of various grants and a great deal of commitment, building the new clubhouse and laying the spacious car park was started in 1981.
From the outset members have maintained and run the club premises and managed its affairs. The green was for many years looked after by members but for a short and unsatisfactory period using contractors were employed. A team led by the late Bill Telfer, a past County President and Treasurer, took over and brought it back to County standards. This led to hosting Middleton Cup, other County matches and the final stages of County competitions including the 2007 finals. From the 2005 season until the present time the team has been led by Barrie Purdy.
The Club has had bowling successes at both local and County levels, where it has provided several players and representatives, winning the County Fours in 2009 leading to an appearance in the National Championships, Worthing. In addition it has provided Middlesex County Presidents, including Peter Lavender for 2013.
In 2005 the Club was honoured by matches against the EBA and Middlesex County in celebration of its silver jubilee. It intends to maintain its prominent position at local and County level for many years to come.
